The Mountain Rangers initiative was started in 2013 by a few residents in Little Falls, following a series of serious crimes in the area.
It involved, in particular, families living on the borders of the Little Falls Nature Reserve. It needed serious interventions, and it was felt the initiative would be a massive deterrent.
It has proven to very much be the case over the years.

There are currently eight rangers employed. They patrol the streets and mountain areas at night, covering Ribbon Avenue, New Chum Avenue, and Montrose Avenue. Their presence has significantly improved security and reduced crime incidents.
Mountain Presence:
Every night from 18h00 to 06h00, Mountain Rangers maintain a permanent presence on the mountain.
Street Patrols:
Every night from 18h00 to 06h00, additional rangers patrol the streets from Ribbin Avenue to lower Montrose Avenue.
With your help, we can improve the security initiative.
Head Mountain Ranger: Morgan
Assistant Head Mountain Ranger (Ribbon): Bruce
Assistant Head Mountain Ranger (Montrose): Mthunzi
Team Members: Ashton, Brilliant, Obey, Meluleki, and Mzingaye.
The seventh and eighth rangers facilitate rotation and ensure that everyone receives their 30 days of annual leave and necessary days off due to their long working hours.
